Contact Management Strategy:
MailChimp manages contacts using an audience-based system, where each audience functions as a separate contact database. When maintaining multiple contact lists (audiences) within MailChimp, each list remains independent, preserving its original structure. However, MailChimp treats each audience separately, so if the same contact appears in two different audiences, they would receive duplicate emails when sending campaigns simultaneously to both lists.
To avoid sending duplicate emails, I consolidate our contacts into a unified database system inside MailChimp, applying specific tags to categorize contacts. This tagging system helps identify and merge duplicates efficiently. When importing these consolidated and tagged contacts into a single MailChimp audience, duplicates are automatically recognized and removed, ensuring each contact receives the campaign only once. MailChimp's built-in segmentation feature, based on tags, also provides flexibility and precise targeting for campaign distribution. Additionally, MailChimp's detailed reporting functionality ensures clear visibility into the exact list of contacts who received any given campaign.
